August 2020 was not a good month for German process engineering, as order intake and sales remain very clearly below the level of the previous year. Orders are down 42 percent in real terms compared to the same month last year. Sales are also down, at minus 30 percent.
CHEMTECH (24. - 27.02.2021) will only be held as a virtual event with technical presentations. CHEMTECH will be held again as a presence exhibition from 22 to 25.02.2022. The VDMA is now examining the possibility of online presentations on specific topics by VDMA members in the virtual substitute offer. For this purpose, the VDMA will initially address all existing exhibitors until the beginning of October. Further interested companies are welcome to contact the VDMA (contacts see below).
With the last CIPPE cancelled due to coronavirus, chances are good for a regular staging of CIPPE 2021 from 30 March - 01 April as the pandemic is under control.

The majority of the mechanical engineering companies across all branches of industry are confident that after a disappointing year 2020, nominal sales increases will be achieved again as early as 2021. Orders also remain on a downward trend in the Process Technology Division. As expected, the significant decline in new orders continued in May. Orders fell by 21 percent in real terms compared with the previous year. Sales in May were also 12 per cent below the previous year's level.
The Federation of German Industries (BDI), in close cooperation with the Competence Centre for Respiratory Protection of the German Employers' Liability Insurance Association for Raw Materials and Chemical Industry (BG RCI), has drawn up a recommendation for the wearing time limit when wearing mouth-nose cover (MNB) or mouth-nose protection (MNS).

The German manufacturers of components and systems for water treatment, wastewater and sludge treatment were able to increase their exports to more than one billion euros for the first time in 2018. Compared to the previous year, exports increased significantly (plus 3.9 percent) to around 1,038 million euros (2018) compared to around 999 million euros (2017).
Export market China booming with 54 percent growth
German manufacturers of components and systems for water treatment, wastewater and sludge treatment were able to stabilise their exports at a high level in 2017. Compared to the previous year, exports rose slightly (plus 0.4 percent) to around 993 million euros (2017) compared to around 990 million euros (2016).

In 2015, the German manufacturers of components and systems for water treatment, wastewater and sludge treatment were able to increase their exports by nearly 3 percent.

China largely responsible for growth
After 5 years of steady growth, the German production of process machinery and equipment dropped by 10 percent to 6.9 billion euros in 2015. Exports of process engineering machinery and equipment reached a volume of 5.5 billion euros. This is an increase of 1 percent compared to last year.
