While the signs of a slight recovery in order intake for the mechanical engineering industry as a whole in September, order intake in the process engineering sector remains dramatically below the previous year's figures. Orders are down 65 percent in real terms compared with the same month last year. Sales are also down by 6 percent. The third quarter ends disappointingly for Process Engineering.
The Federal Institute for Occupational Safety and Health (BAuA) together with the Institute for Employment Research (IAB) has conducted a company survey on the implementation of relevant occupational safety and infection protection measures.
According to information from the China Special Equipment Inspection and Research Institute (CSEI), there is a temporary derogation in the auditing process in view of the CoViD 19 pandemic and the related travel restrictions imposed by the Chinese authorities. This is to ensure that non-Chinese companies whose pressure vessel license has expired or is about to expire and/or who have applied for a new license can continue to supply to China.
In accordance with Section 6 (Requirements for monitoring) of the Ordinance, § 14 regulates a periodic inspection of installations. A list of publicly appointed and sworn experts (ÖBVS) is available.
Within the framework of a cooperation with the gtai, the German Association for Process Engineering Machinery and Apparatus provides information twice a year (spring/autumn; exception: United Kingdom; all reports in German) on the development of the chemical industry in Brazil, China, France, Korea, Russia, Turkey, the USA and the United Kingdom. The current country reports assess the situation for the chemical industry in these markets and provide information on local opportunities and obstacles.
After the entry into force of the 42nd BImSchV, the catalogue of questions of interpretation of the Federal/State Working Group on Immission Control of 7 November 2019 was an essential document for a uniform interpretation of the Ordinance throughout Germany. This catalogue has now been revised and extended for the first time.
August 2020 was not a good month for German process engineering, as order intake and sales remain very clearly below the level of the previous year. Orders are down 42 percent in real terms compared to the same month last year. Sales are also down, at minus 30 percent.
CHEMTECH (24. - 27.02.2021) will only be held as a virtual event with technical presentations. CHEMTECH will be held again as a presence exhibition from 22 to 25.02.2022. The VDMA is now examining the possibility of online presentations on specific topics by VDMA members in the virtual substitute offer. For this purpose, the VDMA will initially address all existing exhibitors until the beginning of October. Further interested companies are welcome to contact the VDMA (contacts see below).
After the last CIPPE 2020 was canccelled due to the corona virus, the chances for a regular CIPPE 2021 in Beijing from 30.03. - 01.04. are good as the pandemic in China now seems to be under control of the authorities.
The VDMA International Trade Fair lists for process technology and water technology are is updated regularly. The latest versions can be downloaded below.
As was the case shortly after the outbreak of the Corona pandemic, the list of postponed or cancelled trade fairs has also been extended in the process technology sector. Here is our overview.
The next IFAT will take place from 30 May to 3 June 2022. The online registration for exhibitors will be available from 16 September 2020.
At the end of 2020, the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland (UK) will leave the European Union. This has direct consequences for the placing of products on the British market, which are regulated by European harmonization regulations (e.g. Machinery Directive). Among other things, the CE mark established in the European Economic Area will be replaced by a UKCA mark in Great Britain in the future.
Exclusively for the VDMA, Germany Trade & Invest (gtai) produces reports on the development of the chemical industry in selected countries and the VDMA India reports on the economic situation of Indian process engineering.
The new SARS-CoV-2 occupational safety rule has been published as a preliminary version on the website of the Federal Institute for Occupational Safety and Health (BAuA).

Richard Clemens, Managing Director of VDMA Process Plant and Equipment Association is pleased „that her in Frankfurt we will once again have an opportunity to see “live” and for ourselves what German engineers have to offer when it comes to process plant and equipment. For the manufacturers of process plants and equipment ACHEMA takes place in an economically positive surrounding.
Making the world a good deal cleaner, conserving resources and maintaining good air and clear water - that requires state-of-the-art mechanical engineering. Around 3,300 exhibitors are demonstrating at IFAT in Munich that the technologies are ready to efficiently separate and recycle recyclable materials, clean water from plastic waste or purify polluted air. The machine manufacturers from Germany play a leading role here.
